Devastating News on UPS Accident: Death Toll Increases to 13

The total count of victims from the transport jet which ignited and went down has now risen to 13, per official reports.

City Leader's Announcement

Traveling to the Union’s memorial service, I was informed of a 13th person that passed away as a result of the aircraft incident,” expressed the municipal leader in a social media post. “My prayers are with the loved ones, friends and co-workers of all who were killed in this recently occurred tragedy. We will get through this together.”

Deceased Confirmed

An announcement from the company identified the officers aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts are extended to each employee who has been touched and all in our local area – assisting you and making sure you receive the support and resources you need is our priority,” the organization’s message expressed.

Investigation Updates

Government investigators announced that the freight aircraft’s port side wing burst into flames and an engine detached just after liftoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the aircraft to plummet and burst into a fireball.

The safety agency announced it is probing the aircraft’s service record, which was in Texas for maintenance a period prior to the incident.

Flight tracking records indicated the aircraft was on the runway in San Antonio, Texas from early September to mid-October.

“We are aware that this jet was present in the facility,” stated an investigator on Thursday, without providing a exact date range. “We will look at each aspect of repairs that was performed, including the Texas visit, straight to the date of the flight.”

Recovery of Critical Items

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were retrieved, and the engine was found on the runway.

The devices – known as data containers – were built to endure accident forces and intense heat from infernos, and they seemed to be in one piece when discovered amid the wreckage. Investigators will reviewing information from the devices.

Aircraft’s final data recordings showed an altitude of 475 ft and a velocity of that speed ahead of the impact.

Repair History

Based on FAA records from 18 September, a fissure on a component inside the center wing fuel tank needed fixes.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which stated it provides structural repairs for UPS’s jet and operates a maintenance center in that city, refused to comment, but expressed it would work closely when officials reached out it.

Activities Restart

Meanwhile, the hub activities restarted that evening with its overnight also known as nighttime process, spokesperson Jim Mayer confirmed. All three landing strips at the airport were likewise open again.

The sorting center in this location is the organization’s most significant. The facility hires in excess of 20,000 individuals in the area, manages three hundred trips each day and sorts over a huge volume of parcels per hour.

Community Response

A gathering was conducted on the night of 6 November by the local worker’s group, which supports staff at the airfield, the firm’s largest freight center.

The union chapter, which represents employees, commenced the vigil with a quiet tribute at the evening hour, the approximate hour of the crash previously.

“This incident was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the mayor addressed the assembly of 200. “No one had a chance to part to any one of those who we have lost.”
